Letter to Mt. Sinai Board of Education

November 2, 2010

Trustees
BOARD OF EDUCATION
Mount Sinai Union Free School District
North Country Road
Mount Sinai, New York  11766

Dear Board Member,

I have included a statement titled, “Incident on Election Day at Mt. Sinai High School” describing an act of harassment on the part of a school official and another unidentified person.  I’ve included a photograph of that person and hope that you can assist in identifying her.

While I wish Mr. Dryoff no ill will, I would like an explanation for the position in which he placed me in front of my neighbors.  My response to his direction to leave the property was, I believe, a reasonable one – I wanted to see the regulation or law to which he referred.  Mr. Dryoff’s act of having the police summoned seems to contradict policies contained in the Mt. Sinai Board Policy Manual and High School Handbook regarding civic and human rights.

After reading my statement, I would appreciate a response that includes answers to the following questions:

1.  Was Mr. Dryoff acting on the order of the superintendent?

2.  If he acted in response to the superintendent’s direction, why was he not prepared to cite the violation of the law that he told me about and expected me to know?

3.  Why were the two yellow 100’ distance marker signs removed prior to the arrival of the police and who removed them?

It is my hope and expectation that, after looking into this matter, you will be able to assure me that my first Amendment rights will be respected and protected in the future if I should attempt to communicate with my fellow citizens on days of voting and election.

Sincerely,

Copy:
