Letter to Board of Elections

November 2, 2010
Suffolk County Board of Elections
Yaphank Ave, PO Box 700
Yaphank NY 11980-0700

Wayne T. Rogers
Commissioner

Anita S. Katz
Democratic Commissioner

Cathy L. Richter Geier
Republican Commissioner

I have included a statement titled, “Incident on Election Day at Mt. Sinai High School” describing an act of harassment on the part of a school official and another unidentified person.  I’ve included a photograph of that person and hope that you can assist in identifying her.

After reading my statement, I would appreciate a response that includes:

1.  Documentation of a law prohibiting a citizen from electioneering outside of the posted traditional 100’ marker from the polling place;

2.  A statement about the significance of the yellow 100’ distance marker sign, regulations about who may or may not post or remove the sign, and consequences for unauthorized removal.

3.  The reason the sign was removed prior to the appearance of the police.

It is my hope and expectation that, after looking into this matter, you will be able to assure me that my first Amendment rights will be respected and protected in the future if I should attempt to communicate with my fellow citizens on days of voting and election.

Sincerely,

Copy:
